Gudi Padwa 2014 @ SHIRDI -

On 31st March 2014, 'Gudi Padwa' (Maharashtrian New Year) was celebrated with lot of gaiety in Shirdi. Gudi Padwa marks the end of a harvest season and the beginning of a new one. Gudi Padwa also marks Lord Rama's victorious return to Ayodhya.

According to mythology, on this very day Lord Brahma created the Universe wherein the fire principle waves (Tej tatva) & the creative Prajapati waves are activated on a large scale. The Divine consciousness emanating during sunrise, absorbed at that time lasts longer. This consciousness is stored in the body cells and is used as required. Hence the Gudi should be worshiped within 5-10 minutes after sunrise.

A Gudi is a bamboo stick covered with a bright silk cloth with an inverted copper pot decorated with a swastik and adorned with garlands of 'gaathi' or sugar crystals, mango and neem leaves and red flowers. This colorful Gudi is hoisted atop doors and outside windows on occasion of the Maharashtrian New Year.

On this auspicious occasion, Gudi pooja was performed on top of the Shrine and later Samadhi Pooja and Pada Pooja was performed at the Samadhi Mandir. Baba's Golden Chariot procession was also carried out later.

Over 5,000 devotees walked with huge statues of Shirdi Sai Baba from Shirdi to Mumbai to mark the Hindu New year.
